Constellations Below
Off the ground, but you'll never know
How to cast a memorable glow
Look on out your lofty window
We're the constellations below
Been a while since the diamond days have shone
I died again, but I'm still not etched in stone
Compass led me as west as it would go
Until it stalled, directionless, and broke
As I did so
Sought a sign on every city road
But I found it when I paved my own
Off the ground, but you'll never know
How to cast a comforting glow
Look on out your costly window
At humble constellations below
Been a while since the firenights have glown
But we are fueling a peerless inferno
Living for something greater than our own
Standing firm so we never ever go domino
So look inside yourself for a long-lost shine
And you might find that you will want to
Off the ground, but you'll never know
How to cast a memorable glow
Throw the blinds across your window
Still, we're constellations below
Off the ground, how are you to know
Whether others bask in your glow?
Cast pride right out the window
And join the constellations below
(It's oh so much brighter down here with us)
(No bridles out here where your head is clear)
Can't hear with your head in the ozone
About the song
As the second of three 'thesis' tracks from the album (along with "Wake-Up Call" and "The Reds Of Our Eyes"), this song keeps the carpe-diem theme going, but from a more personal place of hardships and trials faced upon moving to Los Angeles in 2017.PHUN PHACT: The refrain began as an instrumental loop I recorded in 2002 or 2003. I never quite knew what to do with it, but still kept it around for posterity. So keep a record of those ideas, folks! You never know when the right inspiration will strike!
