Wake-Up Call
Can you not hear me?
Are you in that deep?
More important dreams
Depend on reveille
Noses to grindstones
Fingers to their bones
What have you to show
For the seeds you've sown?
Can't see your star? Weed somethin' away
Punch out the clock; more time for the play
Tired of living only one third of your life?
Sleep when you're dead
Here's your wake-up call
Here's to livin' two thirds of our lives
About the song
As the mission statement of the album, this song operates under the adage that we only truly live one third of our lives, because the other two are spent working and sleeping, respectively. We must shed excess trivia, and focus on what is truly important for each of us to thrive in this lifetime.Since I began writing this song/album ten years ago, it's an understatement to say that much has changed in the world since. By no means is this meant to play into "hustle culture", but rather serve as a reminder that some things (and people) are not worth expending our precious time and energy.
PHUN PHACT: I posted a demo of this song to Soundcloud in 2013. This album has been a LONG time coming...
